Organic Meat - is it Really Better for You?
by Michael Atma

What do you think about when you hear the word Organic? Do you think only of organic fruit or organic vegetables? Most people do as organic fruit and veg is the most common food group when it comes to buying organic. Less commonly known is the wholesome and healthy food group of organic meat.

A typical shopper will be looking for specials to suit their financial/budget-ory constraints. Little consideration is given to which meat is going to be the best buy for health, energy and our animals.

So are there any real benefits in buying organic meat and if so what are they? Organic meat may be a beneficial health choice for us and our future generations. Let's look at why.

* Organic meat is free of added hormones, antibiotics, certain types of feed and other drugs. This proves to be a benefit due to the animals being healthier and in turn healthier for us.

* Safeguarded from mad cow syndrome and other illnesses. This helps protect you and your family from illnesses that can come from eating non-organic meat.

* You know that when you are purchasing organic meat that the animals have been taken care of. There is generally a more humane, ethical treatment of the animals. It is important to know that there hasn't been cruelty to the animals as they were being raised to be our dinner.

It is the general belief that free range animals which have had the opportunity to roam around happily are generally healthier. Their diet is generally well rounded and they are able to have much more time outdoors.

* As we all know, animals produce manure. This can be used either as a benefit or thought of a stinky mess. Generally - small farms (and those that take their business seriously) providing organic meat use the manure to fertilize their soil. Industrial farms often find it difficult to manage things in this way.

* With organic meat there are fewer chemicals used on the land. This helps provide safer water, topsoil and a generally cleaner, healthier area for growing fruit and vegetables or raising healthier animals.

* Each dollar you spend is supporting the farmer. This also creates the benefit that farmers can keep supplying high quality organic meat at excellent and affordable prices.

These are just some of the reasons why organic meat is a good choice for you & a very healthy one for your family and future generations to come. It's a fact that if your feel well, you energy levels are higher and your immune system is stronger, which helps the body to handle the impact & stress of the daily grind.

If you add a bad diet to an already stressed lifestyle it is inevitable that something has to give and generally it's your health. Knowing that the meat you're eating comes from animals that have been raised in an environment without being subject to hormone treatments and unhealthy processes means you can put your mind at ease. You and your family can rest assured that eating organic meat can mean your lifestyle is that much safer and healthier.
